These striking architectural lights, hung high up, punctuate the ceiling of the
museums’ main hall. The lights bring a modern twist to 19th century building.
The shades echo the curves of the ceiling beams, supporting pillars and windows. The light they cast is gentle and scattered. Does the shape resemble anything?
This is the iconic and timeless ‘Artichoke’ Lamp. Danish designer Poul Henningson created this as part of the furnishings for a restaurant in Copenhagen.
Henningsen was sensitive to the effects of light. He designed over 100 lamps
all intended to improve life through controlled diffusion and reflection.
The Artichoke is one of the world’s most popular design objects and can be found in many museums. Perhaps you’ll now spot more Artichokes on your travels!
