Leather Jacket
Story by Ian Barnett.
Ever wondered what Gene Vincent, Marlon Brando, and Elvis Presley had in common? Well, you’re looking at it.
Like this ‘Rocker Jacket’, theirs would have long lost the creak of newness and smell of the interior of a factory fresh car. But there’s more going on here.
Is this just a simple utilitarian garment with zips, studs, buckles & shoulder straps, often used to secure gloves or goggles — or a symbol of
revolt?
On the surface it’s hard to imagine a jacket adorned with Triumph badges has an association with anti-social behaviour as characterised by ‘Hells Angels’.
The jacket lost its edge when mass produced for the high street. Can you name any films where you’ve seen one?
